Dear Fellow North Carolinian,

I am pleased to report that a bipartisan bill introduced in the N.C. House of Representatives would allow us to vote on an amendment to protect our private property from eminent domain abuse!

This bill, House Bill 878, was introduced by Representatives Paul Stam (R-Wake), Dan Blue (D-Wake), David Lewis (R-Harnett) and Jim Harrell (D-Surry). According to a release from Rep. Stam, the bill has 81 additional co-sponsors.

A similar amendment was introduced during last year's legislative session.  Unfortunately, last year's legislative leadership sent that bill (HB 2213) to a committee to die.  The amendment introduced during last year's legislative session never even made it to the House floor.

It is our hope that House Bill 878 will be given fair consideration by this year's legislative leadership.  This people of North Carolina deserve for this bill to be debated on the House floor.

Some would have you believe that this amendment is not necessary.  They would have you believe that a statute passed during last year's legislative session and signed into law by Governor Easley gives us the level of protection we need.  That is not the case.  Unfortunately, that law can easily be undone based on the whims of a future legislature.

That's why we need a constitutional amendment.  Simply put, our private property rights are too important to trust to the whims of future legislators.  We need a constitutional solution that will stand the test of time.

As citizens, we must unite to protect our private property rights.  Now is the time to make our voice heard.

We Need Your Help:  There are four ways you can help with our efforts to protect private property rights in North Carolina:

  1. Contact Your Legislator:  Make your voice heard by contacting your legislators and asking them to support a constitutional amendment to protect our private property from eminent domain abuse.  You can use the links on the left side of this e-mail to determine who represents you and find out how to contact them.

  2. Sign Our Petition:  If you have not already done so, please sign our petition calling for a state constitutional amendment to protect our property from eminent domain abuse.  Click here to sign the petition.

  3. Make a Contribution:  We need your financial support to ensure that we are able to effectively communicate our message and make a strong stand for private property rights.  Every donation, whether $5.00 or $5,000.00, is important.  Please click here to make a donation.

  4. Tell Five Friends:  There is strength in numbers.  Please take a few minutes to tell five of your friends about this organization.  Encourage them to sign our petition, and encourage them to join our email list.  Click here to use our tell-a-friend form.

We need your help to protect the private property of all North Carolinians.  Please take the time to help us with this important effort by doing these three simple things.

Sincerely,

Kieran Shanahan
